Just when I thought spring was making an appearance Bam! A snow day appears, well less snow day and more rainy, slushy, sleety, windy, icy and well you get it… YUCK! I’m over this winter. I’m ready for the windows to be open, walks to the park 3 times a day and summer dresses… sigh…
Oh well! The good thing about March storms is you know that old man winter can’t have too many more up his sleeve. Fingers crossed anyways. So it’s best to get all the winter comforts out of your system now because it’ll all be over soon.
Today we put on Bon Iver, lit some candles and got the paint out to get
creative messy. After I hosed down the little gingers we snuggled on the couch with blankets and made hot Chocolate -with a twist!
Two things I really love for their winter warming qualities are tea and chocolate. But what can you do on a really cold, snowy day when the last thing you feel like doing is going outside? Make your own of course!Tea, ah lovely Tea I guess because of my British background it’s expected that I love it and I really truly do. It’s a warm hug when you need it most. I’m not discriminatory either I like all types of tea; green, black, spiced, fruity and one of my new favourites – Chai. It’s a lovely winter tea with healing anti-inflammatory ingredients like ginger, cinnamon, cloves and star anise. I had a few packets of TAZO Organic Chai kicking around so I decided to make this my star ingredient.
Because the kids were involved I chose to make this a hot chocolate recipe. Of course I wanted it to be nutritious so I put together wholesome ingredients like cinnamon, dates and cashew milk. A cup cashew milk contains 50% of your daily Vitamin E needs, which is great for your skin.
The co-star to this chai tea is the raw cacao. I love this stuff, it’s so delicious and boosts your mood! Cacao can increase levels of certain neurotransmitters that promote a sense of well-being and we all need that on these cold, sun-less days. This recipe is so quick to put together and its great for the times you don’t want to venture out to your favourite high priced coffee shop.
